Toto's discography includes 13 studio albums and four live albums. There are also a few compilations. In addition to releasing original music, Toto has also done collaborations with other artists as well as on soundtracks for films. Toto has won numerous Grammy Awards.
Before the formation of Toto the group, members worked as session work for other musicians. David Paich, the son of session drummer Marty Paich, and Jeff Porcaro (the brother of guitarist Joe Porcaro and drummer Jeff Porcaro) all played on Boz Scaggsalbum from 1975 Silk Degrees. The collaboration led to the formation of Toto in 1976.
Turn Back, Toto's third studio album, was criticized by critics due to lacking hit singles. In 1985 the group's lead singer Fergie Frederiksen resigned from the group The band held auditions to find the new frontman. The band chose guitarist Steve Lukather, and recorded Fahrenheit in 1986.
Toto released Toto XX in 1998 to celebrate its 20th anniversary. The band went through old tapes and recordings to create the special record. The album was well-received by fans and the band went on a tour that featured former members Bobby Kimball, Steve Porcaro and Joseph Williams.
Shem von Schröck replaced Leland Sklar as the drummer during the tour for the 40 Trips Around the Sun album. In the year 2017, Toto released the double-CD set Falling in Between. It included recordings from the tour and also an interview with the group.
